Chair Chat!
Firstly, a warm welcome to all the new members of SERC Lothian’s, it’s very encouraging when new members join us mid way through the season, and I hope you continue to have a very happy and enjoyable season! Thank you to everybody who supported the West Fenton Ride in May, especially to Isobel Hunnam who organised the Ride. The food itself raised £200 for the RDA. There were a lot of smiley faces at the end of the day. Our next ride at Hillhead started with very warm weather and everyone reaching for the suncream, only to end the day with heavy rain, very tough riding conditions and a huge well done to all the riders and crews! This ride would not have been possible without the help of the Organising Committee -of me, Angela Fotheringham and Gill Stephen.
Also a huge thank you to all the helpers for both of those rides, we could not have done it without you. Congratulations to: - Kaye Conafray & Maia, Colin Bell & Jacara, Stephanie Brammer & Redhouse Islay, Dot Ross & Coco of Caldside and Kirsten Jenkins & Shadrach, for being selected for the Home International & Celtic Challenge Team
As we head into the summer months, we have 3 exciting rides coming up – Broughton, Kirkton Manor and our Dressage Event. The Capercaille Challange 2009 (at Kirkton Manor) is just around the corner so don’t hold back if you would like to take part – please contact me, there is a distance for everyone on the team.
Please remember that myself and all of the Lothian’s Committee Members are here to hopefully answer any queries you might have and listen to any suggestion you may wish to make, so please contact us – that’s what we are here for!
Let’s hope the weather stays good, and the ground doesn’t get too hard!
Happy Riding to you all.
Evelyn, Ginti & Zeb

Memo from Mary Stockdale, Branch Archivist
We are midway through the season now and many of you will have done quite a few rides already. That means you have vet sheets in your log books but there are some people who have not yet sent me a single copy! Please, I have a life; I cannot cope with ‘War&Peace’ landing on my doormat if you send them all in at once. If you are a new member (or just need a reminder) the procedure is that each time you do a ride with a branch other than Lothians you should either photocopy your vet sheet and post the copy to me or scan your vet sheet and email to me.
As well as vet sheet copies I will need an occasional copy of your current season mileage card showing all rides done so far this year so that I can check mileages are correct. Please make sure that your copies are legible!! My preference is for email but snail mail is fine.
Have a heart and send them in now!!
Retirement Rosettes
Awarded to any horse that retires during or at the end of the season. This horse will be unable to claim mileage at any future rides. KMs covered will be on the tails of the rosette, rosettes will be in Lothian's Colours. For the 2009 year only, we will award this to horses that have retired in previous years, only if the rider has FULL membership (non riding does not qualify) for the 2009 season with SERC Lothian’s. To qualify for this award, please send your mileage card to Evelyn Frame, 15 Limeylands Road, Ormiston, EH35 5JG.
Cut off date for this award is 31/12/2009.
